Braces at Waldorf Orthodontics, White Plains, MD

Selecting the proper orthodontic treatment can be challenging, but our team at Waldorf Orthodontics in White Plains, Maryland are here to help you choose the correct procedure to achieve the results you want. There are several types of braces to choose from, and all of them will align your teeth and provide a corrected, beautiful smile.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are placed behind the teeth (by the tongue and palate), rather than in front, and therefore offer a great cosmetic alternative for those who want their teeth straightened without the braces showing. This partly explains why they are more common among adults than children. One other advantage is that if you play a wind instrument or a sport, lingual braces are easier to adapt to than traditional braces.

Not everyone can wear lingual braces. The teeth must be long enough to provide sufficient room to glue the braces on the inside of the teeth; therefore, lingual braces may not work for children or someone with especially small teeth. You also cannot wear lingual braces if you have excessive bite problems.

Self-Ligating Braces

This type of braces is made from the same materials as traditional braces, but do not require elastics. They are the same size as traditional braces and come with traditional metal, ceramic or clear brackets. Because no elastics are used, less friction is placed on teeth. Instead, a specialized clip is used to reduce pressure placed on teeth, meaning fewer adjustments are needed.
